Hello world!

Hi everybody! I am really excited to launch this new aerial photography business.

I feel a little like Richard Branson. Although he started with something a little bigger, like Boeing 747s, I too have started a mini-version of an airline! The licensing, the certifications, the regulations... it's all there. All of this to ensure a safe operation- not only for those involved in a project, but everyone around us.

Starting up and running an aerial photography business using drones, is at the intersection of a few passions of mine.

Ever since I was five when I flew for the first time in a Cessna 172, I have been passionate about flying, about flight. I love looking out the window and seeing the world down below. While it's not the same as actually being on board, looking at the subject matter from the air, all while standing firmly on the ground, gives me the same thrill.

As a photographer all my adult life, I have always sought out the 'angle' that's different. I love to work with textures and have developed an intuitive sense of aesthetic. I mention on this site that I instinctively see the world through a camera's viewfinder. That's true. Now, from the air, I have an entirely new perspective to work with. Then, once the shooting is over, I have worked with Final Cut Pro and Photoshop (I use Affinity now) for at least twenty years.

Finally, after working for thirty years in the transportation industry, safety is the number one value in anything I do. Does that make me a little more conservative in my flying? Absolutely. Drones, as flying machines, are incredibly reliable and many of the manufacturers include automated systems to make them even safer but they're still not perfect. Moreover, most issues with drones come from the pilots flying into obstacles.

Anybody can fly a drone. Any anybody can take a picture. And there are lots of people who can fly a drone and take a picture. However, the person you really want for your overhead imaging, is someone with hundreds of hours of drone flying experience, has thirty years immersed in a professional safety culture and has at least forty years of developing a visual aesthetic itching to get the very best videos and images from the air.

I am so grateful you have made it this far. You have a need for photography or videography of any sort? I am 'that guy' who will get you the shot.

Overhead Imaging is here for the long term... we're here to stay. I really look forward to working with you.
